The Achilles tendon attaches your calf muscles to your heel bone (or calcaneus). This tendon is used when you walk, run, jump,or stand on the balls of your feet. Prolonged and intense physical activity (running, jumping) can cause inflammation of the Achilles tendon. Referred to as Achilles Tendinitis, this condition can be painful, but easy home treatments may help your tendinitis. However, if home treatments don't work, it is crucial to see a doctor. If tendinitis gets worse, your tendon can tear. Based on your individual situation, you may need further treatment, such as medication or surgery, to ease the pain.
