Flat feet (or fallen arches) is a condition that occurs when the arches on the inside of your feet are flattened, so the entire soles of your feet touch the floor when standing. Flat foot condition is common and usually painless, and can occur when arches don't develop during childhood or can also develop after an injury or stresses of age (wear and tear). If you aren't experiencing any pain, flat feet usually don't require any treatment. However, sometimes flat feet can contribute to other problems in the foot and ankle, since the condition can alter the alignment and affect how you walk. If you are experiencing pain or dysfunction due to your flat feet, seek help from a podiatrist. Your podiatrist will observe your feet from the front and back, and may watch you walk or have you stand on your toes. One of the most common and effective treatments for flat feet is the use of pre-fabricated arch supports/orthotics or custom molded arch supports/orthotics to help relieve pain from flat feet and reduce symptoms. Supportive shoes that are very structured are also recommended to help alleviate pain from flat feet.
